The Spy Pen - How to Choose the Right Model Spy Pen For You.

With so many different spy pen models now available on the market to buy, it has become difficult to decide which pen is right for your needs.  We supply the widest range of spy pens available in the UK, with various pen features performing specific tasks - in this section we hope to help you identify and choose the right model for your specific requirements.

Spy Pen Costs

The first consideration is often cost.  How much does the spy pen cost?  Unfortunately this doesn't help much because the pens are realistically priced depending on the technology used in their makeup.  With this in mind, the features will be discussed in detail and at the end of the day the cost of the pen is the final deciding factor for the prospective user - rather than the first.

Pens basically serve one purpose, they record movies and sound.  The main variant is how the spy pen begins to make its recording.

For normal everyday use, where the user of the spy pen is present and able to hold or at least reach it, a standard pen with no motion or sound detection is ideal.  The pen has a button on the top above the clip which can be pressed to turn on the pen - and then pressed again to start recording when required.  This type of pen can be worn on the person - for example in a shirt or jacket pocket exposing the lens to the enviroment for recording.  This model can also be used by pressing the record button, and then placing it in a covert location within a meeting room for example, and left to record indefinately (until the battery runs out of power).  Given the right distance (15ft) and a full charge the pen will record for an hour or so capturing both video and sound.

Spy Pen Motion

Motion detection spy pens are useful where the owner wishes to capture video only in the event that motion occurs.  The pen can be left hidden and the camera will start only when motion is detected within the viscinity of the lens.  This type of spy pen will then stop recording when there is no movement - and wait for more movement before recording again.  Whilst this feature has a great many uses - it is specialised and requires a certain type of scenario present to make the most of it.  Motion detection is an additional ability of the pen - and if required it can be used as a standard push button start/stop spy pen simply by changing the operating mode.

Sound detection spy pen features are very similar to those of the motion pen.  Instead of movement - sound is detected to start the recording.  The main difference between the two models is that the sound pen will start recording and not shut down until the battery is completely discharged (or the internal memory is full).  This spy pen can also be used as a normal push on push off pen and has the additional functionality of acting as a webcam should this be required, charging and recording at the same time.

With the above pen types addressed, all that remains is to decide on screen resolution and memory size.  The standard pens come with 640x480 resolution.  This means that if (typically) your computer screen is displaying at 1280x1024 - the video when played back on your PC would take up approximately half of the screen.   A spy pen recording at 1280x960 would therefore take up most of the screen and appear larger.

With memory, all of the pens can record continuously until the battery runs out of power.  This means that the memory will always be available for a charged pen (unless the pen is full of older recordings).  For example, a pen with 4GB of RAM has more than enough space to store a full batteries worth of recording - and 8GB pen therefore has enough space to record two batteries worth of recording time.  A battery will typically last between 1 and 2 hours depending on the model.
