Many customers frequently ask "how do I set the time and date on my spy pen?"This question refers of course to the setting on the video recording as
opposed to the photograph (where available) which appears normally in the bottom right hand corner of the movie.
The first step is to create a file using notepad.exe - this is a windows text editor and has been
shipped with windows since the beginning of time! It is normall found in the accessories section of your windows system. If you cannot find notepad.exe - then simply click the windows start button and you
will see a "run" option - click this and enter notepad.
Inside notpad - enter a date and time in the following format for the spy pen to read :-
YYYY.MM.DD HH.MM.SS Y
below is an actual example of how the content of the text edit should look (with your own correct date of course)
2010.03.22 01.43.21 Y
At this point you should have just one line as above in your editor showing the
correct date and time - you must enter fullstops (.), and spaces EXACTLY as they appear above.
The Y on the end can be either Y or N - if you choose to enter Y - then the date stamp will show on the video
- entering N will turn off stamping on the spy pen alltogether.
Now - save this file and call it time.txt - place it in a location on your hard disk where you will be able to locate it. If your spy pen batteries
become completely depleted - then you will need to edit the file again.
Once saved, connect your pen to the USB port - when it is connected and showing in windows explorer - simply copy the file time.txt onto the top
level of the pens directory - this is sometimes seen as "MINIDV" or "ENJOY" or sometimes it just shows as "Removable Disk". Once the file is copied - disconnect the pen and make a recording. The pen will
stamp your date and time on the movie for you (unless you specified N above).
Thats it! Your pen will now remember the time until it runs out of power completely - in this case you can just repeat the above
steps to refresh its internal clock.
